July 4, 2013Giving Yourself Time…
Sometimes even when we are working hard in the gym and eating nutritious whole natural healthy foods we feel like we are not making progress or at least not fast enough progress towards attaining our health fitness goal, whatever that may look like.
This can be really difficult to deal with emotionally. When you are doing everything right and the fat just does not want to come off it can be very disheartening, especially if you compare yourself to others who maybe don’t have to work so hard in the gym or can eat whatever they want and still manage to look amazing.
I struggle with this all the time. My body is made for hard, heavy work which is great when I am backpacking for two weeks with a 60 pound pack on but not so great when I am at home and trying to stay in my jeans. I constantly have to watch what I eat and spend hours in the gym and even then, I struggle.
Every body is made differently and responds differently to nutrition and exercise protocol. What I am constantly reminding myself and my clients is that day after day, meal after meal, workout after workout, you are making changes to your body from the inside out. Those changes must be made on the inside before you see it on the outside and sometimes that can take a long time.
Just remind yourself how many months or years you have had less than ideal nutrition or exercise habits and try to give yourself some grace to not be perfect. Everyday that you stay on track is another day that you are heading towards achieving your health fitness goals.
