2017 RMEF World Elk Calling Championships

The 2017 Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation World’s Elk Calling Championships brought elk hunters to Salt Lake City to the battle royal of elk calling. The event helps raise awareness of RMEF, elk, habitat and conservation initiatives.

In the competition, callers have 60 seconds to mimic cow elk sounds, followed by bull sounds. Most callers blow across a latex reed placed inside the mouth. In the natural-voice division, however, no calling devices are allowed. A variety of plastic tubes are used like megaphones, giving the sounds realistic resonance. A panel of judges scores each competitor anonymously.

Winners received prizes and cash ranging from $500 to $2,500.

The crew from Rocky Mountain Hunting Calls came home with a lot of trophies this year from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Worlds Elk Calling Championships! The people on the stage are dedicated outdoorsmen, women & kids that are true representatives of hunters & conservationists. And we have a NEW World Champion Woman- Lydia Smith that took the title with only having practiced for one month!!! Way to go girl. You are proof that ANYONE can step in this stage and win! Thank you for using my new #wildfury diaphragm for the WIN!

I’m super proud of these great kids representing youth elk hunters! Hunter took 3rd place in youth, Carly took 5th in youth and Fisher took 3rd in PeeWee! My little junior Pro Staff using the Pursue The Wild Calls crushing it! Love these kids!
