Starting Over – Tips For Making Fitness A Priority

Every day, time is wasted doing things that literally have no real benefit to life. Cell phones and the majority of the time spent on them is a great example. But with a little planning, life can literally change simply by prioritizing how our time is spent.

Realize that you are not too old, you are not too late, and although you often cannot control what’s happening to you in your life, you can control how you react to it. Start today by looking in the mirror and saying to yourself; Yes, I can.

When it comes to fitness and nutrition, starting over… well, it feels like starting over. Meet yourself where you are and make the commitment to take that next step.

On the bright side, if you condition your mind to deal with discomfort, you will be more apt to thrive on the mountain, and as you get stronger your perception will change.

If you’re looking for some help there are some great fitness tools that you can invest in or subscribe to that offer help and support to get you started and keep you on track. Below are a few to consider.

Sign up for a challenge or register for a competition

Wilderness Athlete Rebuild or Reboot Programs

These programs allow you to journal your workout sessions so that you can more rapidly identify starting points for loading weight for your lifting sessions and have the opportunity to go back and measure strength and endurance improvements accurately. Plus, each features meal plans, supplements and more.

75 Hard

75 Hard is a transformative mental toughness program. This is all in 100% no cheating approach where the app provides daily checklists and tracking of the following mandatory items.

Join group fitness or get a lifting partner

Find a good lifting partner with similar goals and mental attitude. Motivate each other to train harder than perhaps you might alone.

Group fitness like CrossFit, boot camp, spin class or a swim meet is a great way to intensify your workouts. If you are even slightly competitive, being in a room filled with people doing the same workout, will make you want to push your comfort zone and work harder with the ability to scale your workout to your current level of fitness.

Try an exercise app

Apps are convenient and offer a large variety of exercises like strength training, cardio, yoga, Pilates, stretching and more. Most can even be completed at home with no special equipment on up to a modest amount of fitness equipment. Most are even available on your phone, iPad or Smart TV. I recommend the Peloton app and Jefit as I have used them myself.

Conclusion

When you look in the mirror, how you talk to yourself matters. The habits that you create day to day determine your results. Change comes slowly and is hard earned. This can be mentally challenging to keep going, to keep working, to stay on track. Quit making excuses and start embracing the struggle for that is what will lead you to accomplish your fitness goals.
