March 31, 2016Supplements are big business with companies offering a variety of forms to help its users achieve positive change. However, certified nutritionist Kristy Titus in her recent article, “Label Lies” in April’s issue of Western Hunter magazine, warns consumers caveat emptor – or buyer beware – when it comes to nutritional supplements. Western Hunter is available on newsstands or visit http://westernhunter.net
Supplements are not FDA regulated and several manufacturers have recently been found guilty of selling supplements that did not contain the ingredients listed on the labels.
Titus explains in her article one way consumers get ‘duped’ into believing what they are taking is working for them is because of the placebo effect. “The mind is a very powerful force. We’ve all heard of the placebo effect – if you take a supplement expecting a specific result, your mind can work to manifest a similar result within the body or make you believe it happened. The power of placebo combined with the addition of fillers and stimulants has many consumers believing that they are consuming a product that is benefitting their health and wellness.” wrote Titus.
Titus shares in her article what consumers should look for when it comes to nutritional supplements – from pharmaceutical grade ingredients to third party testing. One company Titus endorses is Wilderness Athlete, http://wildernessathlete.com “All Wilderness Athlete Performance Products rest on the expertise of a board of experts that have over 100 years of combined clinical work at multiple prestigious universities and human performance labs around the world,” concluded Titus.
